I had shot the moonset over the Maroon Bells before I started the hike up to Crater Lake. When I turned around at one point in the trek, I realized I had to stop and photograph this classic Colorado landscape image - sunrise over Maroon Lake. The winds were calm and the sun was able to peek through the clouds for a brief moment. I had shot the moonset over the Maroon Bells before I started the hike up to Crater Lake. When I turned around at one point in the trek, I realized I had to stop and photograph this classic Colorado landscape image - sunrise over Maroon Lake. The winds were calm and the sun was able to peek through the clouds for a brief moment. The irony of this image is that I had waited for about 10 minutes for the sun to rise over the distant mountains. I finally figured the clouds would win out. I packed up my tripod and camera and started up the trail only to realize the sun was making an appearance. I quickly reset everything and captured this lone image before the sun vanished again.
