The Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad winds along the valley and over high cliffs as it follows the Animas River for 52 miles. The three and a half hour ride allows the opportunity to take the rugged Colorado landscapes of the San Juans, and also presents a change to capture some great images. <br />
Thanks to the on-board photographer, I was given tips as to when the best bends in the line would be, and I tried to capture in a picture the beauty of these Rocky Mountains.<br />

Construction of the Narrow Gauge Railroad was started in August of 1881 and completed only 9 months later. Originally desiged to haul silver and gold from the San Juans, it now escorts passengers and tourists through the mountains.
