One of my favorite times of day is the 30 minutes before sunrise. This is often called the "blue hour." On long exposures, when you are shooting towards the east, the camera will pick up the faint glow of the impending sunrise.
That was the case in this image from Austin. The horizon beyond the Austin skyline is beginning to glow orange and the city lights are still lit from the evening.
