When I trek out into the night to photograph the Milky Way, I am usually prepared. That was the case in this image from Enchanted Rock in the Texas Hill Country. I use a program called Stellarium to plot exactly when and where the Milky Way will rise, as well as noting the moon phase (a full moon will wash out the stars that make up the night sky). This photo was taken on the north west side of Enchanted Rock. I took several long exposures using an astro-tracker, and in one of the shots I was fortunate enough to capture this shooting star adding a little drama to a tranquil scene.
