Overlooking the Lower Ice Lake Basin, Colorado wildflowers fill the landscape. In the distance are Fuller Peaks (13,761-ft.), Vermillion Peak (13,894-ft.), Golden Horn (13,780-ft.) and Pilot Knob (13,738-ft.). Nestled in the trees is the Lower Ice Lake. It is an easy hike to this point - perhaps 1600 vertical feet spread out over 2.5 miles - perfect for a morning activity when you are in Silverton or Ouray. The trailhead is only 5 miles down a good dirt road (no 4WD required). you can hike further up to Upper Ice Lake and the spectactular Island Lake, as well, though those are a bit more of a grunt but worth the effort.
