The morning clouds were soft and the wildflowers abundant along the trail in Butler Gulch, one of my favorite locations for landscape photography in Colorado. I tend to visit this place several times each summer, making the short hike (~ 2.3 miles to this spot) in the dark in order to arrive before sunrise. I've never seen folks there at that time, but usually when I'm heading down about 7:30am I run into many hikers. This is a beautiful spot, for sure, and is also popular with snow-shoers in the winter. If you hike further, there is an old mine about a mile or so up the trail, as well.<br />

Just over the ridge and down again is the town of Winter Park. Butler Gulch is right off of Highway 40 as you go through the one-horse town of Berthoud Falls. Look for the Big Bend Camp Ground and follow the signs on the left.
